Securely Accessing A Windows XP Pro PC using Remote-Office



    To install Remote-Office on the PC that you wish to remotely control please take the following steps:

  1. Do not start untill you have received an email from remote-offce.co.nz containing your account details.
  2. Download and run this file. This will install Remote-Office on the PC.
  3. Enter and account number and password when prompted to complete the installation.

    Confirm that Microsoft Remote-Desktop is properly configured on this PC as follows:

  1. Right click on 'My Computer'
  2. Click on Properties.
  3. Click the Remote tab.
  4. Confirm the Remote Desktop checkbox is checked (Allow Users To Connect Remotely To This Computer).

    Specify which users can access this PC remotely:

  1. Click the Select Remote Users button, shown in Figure A.
  2. Click the Add button.
  3. Specify those users that should receive permission to access the system remotely.
  4. Click OK to close the Select Users window.
  5. Click OK to close the Remote Desktop Users window.
  6. Note that Remote Desktop Users must have a windows password set.

    To use a Windows PC* to take control of Remote PC please take the following steps:
  1. If you are certain that the PC is secure and virus free (e.g a home PC not used by teenagers).

    • Download and run this file. This will install Remote-Office Client on the PC.
    • Enter and account number and password when prompted to complete the installation.
    • Do not use this option unless you are sure that the PC is secure and virus free.
  2. If you are not certain that the PC is secure and virus free (e.g a internet cafe PC or a PC used by teenagers).

    • Open a web browser at this page (Only works with Internet Explorer).
    • Use a separate calculator to determine the One Use Access Code using the information from your account details email.
    • Assume that the insecure PC may be recording your keystrokes and screen activity.
    • Avoid activities such as internet banking or making online purchases using credit cards etc.
    • Note that even if your activity was monitored your remote PC cannot be accessed UNLESS you either:

      1. Calculated the One Use Access Code using the insecure PC.
      2. Failed to click 'Disconnect' on the web page after you ended your remotec ontrol session.
    *Any PC running a version of Microsoft Windows that is currently supported by Microsoft will work.
